Claire Ulrich With the Lord

Claire M. Ulrich, wife of longtime Brethren Encyclopedia board member and secretary Dale Ulrich, recently went to be with the Lord. Claire served BE for many years with her accounting and financial skills. Your prayers for Brother Dale and the family in the adjustments ahead will be appreciated. This obituary appeared in the Bridgewater, Virginia, newspaper:
 
Claire M. Ulrich, 80, of Bridgewater, died peacefully in her home Jan. 13, 2011.
 
After her marriage to Dale V. Ulrich of Wenatchee, Wash., the couple served together in Brethren Volunteer Service from 1956 to 1958, managing the Pilot House in inner city Baltimore. 

In 1970, Claire founded the Bridgewater Preschool Program at the Church of the Brethren and served as its first director until 1976. She then changed careers, earning her CPA and working in accounting until 1993, when she became a medical management software trainer. 

In her retirement, Claire enjoyed playing tenor recorder with the Round Hill Recorder Consort, tutoring with the Skyline Literacy Coalition and learning Spanish. Claire was a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren for 53 years, serving as the congregation's first woman moderator from 1985 to 1993. 

She is survived by her husband of 57 years and her three children and their spouses: Vern and Pam Ulrich, Dan and Paula Ulrich, and Sharon and Jay Wilkinson. 

A memorial service was Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren for The Childcare Center; 420 College View Drive, Bridgewater, VA 22812, or to the Skyline Literacy Coalition, 975 S. High St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801, indicating in the memory of Claire Ulrich.
